These reflections are written collaboratively by the students. The kids have been typing their own work. All five groups work simutaniously to type their reflection into a google doc that is the copied here to our site. Occasionally we will do video reflections as well.
Writing Reflection
11/14/14
This week in class we have been reading The Boxcar Children. We also read the book
Everything I Know about Monsters, then we painted and wrote about our own monsters.
We had Halloween party and in the party we got wrapped up like mummies. There were
candy and drinks and we dressed up in our halloween costumes. With No Masks!!!!
In math we have been studying area and perimeter in math. We made subtraction spiders in math for Halloween. We have been working in our problem solving packet as well. We have been having fun in MATH!
In literacy we use our Wonders books. There are fiction and nonfiction stories. We learned about Gary the dreamer. We read stories and did four squares which means that we did a worksheet on the stories. The story is about 7 cranes making a migration to the south and coming back. 5 cranes came back safely and 2 didn’t make it back.
This week we are starting our animal research. We get to create our own animals. Everyone’s animals are different, we combine two animals together. Our class has to make sure the animals are in the same group of vertebrates or invertebrates and if they are carnivores, omnivores, herbivores, decomposers, and/or scavengers. That’s what we’ve been studying in science/social studies.
This is time for specials!!
In art we just finished our V trees. In the V trees we put tissue paper on a white paper and we painted our V trees with black paint. It was 1 of our messy projects!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We just finished the first trimester of spanish and we made a presentation with a partner. We showed her what we learned this trimester.
We took a test in music to see what we learned and finished the 1st trimester. We just started Recorders this week.
In gym we get a lot of energy out. This week on Friday we did centers. It was station day #10. Every week on different days it is station day.
In library we started finding books so we know where to go to find books we are looking for. There’s a shelf of the books of the week.

In class we do a lot of things, some of these things are below. We are reading Bunnicula. We are on chapter five. Another thing we are doing in class is that we earned a movie for Mr. Becker signatures. The movie we are watching is ICE AGE. In 3B we read for 3,521 minutes. We also did 1,978 math minutes. In total we had 5,499 homework minutes. That is the 2nd most this year. We are working hard in 3B. Thank you for reading. Those are some of the things we did this week.
In literacy we have four groups that read different books. The books are; No Talking, Shredderman, Clementine's Letter, and Third Grade Angels. They were all chapter books. With the book we had to write think marks. Think marks are where you write about the book. We make connections to the world, other books, and ourselves.
Today we did math but today is Friday so we went to the fish bowl to do sumdog. Right now we are learning a about time on a number line. Mr Becker is teaching us about elapsed time and how to tell time on a digital and analog clock. Even the work in the morning is about time.
3B has been studying crayfish. First we watched a video and wrote fact fragments from 2 different sources. Then we did are rough draft. Now we’re typing it for our final project. We also got to observe real crayfish. Some of us picked them up. The crayfish help us understand structural and behavioral adaptations.
Ms.Franz really finds a way to make music fun! From so-la-mi to recorders next month. Music is one of the best subjects.
Mrs.Lathrop always keeps us going for books and to kick off the year we are voting for the Bluestem Award. Library is awesome!
Mrs. Sweet is very sweet. This week we finished our sugar skulls for the day of the dead. We also drew them in our sketchbooks.
This week was Marathon week in gym. We ran lots of marathons. We ran the group marathon, the chip and tennis ball marathon and others.
Senora Padron had us working from plazas to teatros to museo and plenty more…...Spanish is awesome and so is Senora. Padron! We had a really great week in specials.

Class - Our class is called 3B. Mr. Becker is funny! We change jobs mostly every week. Some of the jobs are paper passer, line leader, mail person, lunch basket, and librarian. We have a behavior chart. We can change our colors to green, orange, yellow are red. We also work on Ipads. We also learned how to be hallway ninjas.
Literacy - In literacy we read our wonders book. Today we read Gary the Dreamer. In the story it said Gary was born in April. It said that Gary did not have many toys so for toys he used rocks and pebbles for toys. The rocks and pebbles were his army men. Every time we see a vocabulary word we put peace sign up so that Mr. Becker will know that we are paying attention to the book.
Math - These days we are doing math word problems and tracking the answers on a graph. Sometimes in math Mr. Becker gives us morning work. Sometimes we work in our problem solving packet. Every Friday we go to the fishbowl lab to work on Sumdog. Recently we were working in Envisions and working with the common core. This is what we have been doing in math.
Specials - At art class we learned about international dot day. So we made weird dots. In music class we learned a game called So La Mi. In spanish we learned how to say last names, where you were born, and what your favorite subject is in school. In gym we learned beanbag golf. In library we learned how to scan facts and check out books.
Social Studies - This week in social studies we learned about countries, states, and communities. We set up our classroom like a spaceship and lined up our desks and chairs. We learned about hemispheres, continents, countries, states and finally communities! Oh No we lost contact with NASA! Then we used paper maps of the earth and space to find our way back Cape Canaveral, Florida. Gladley we made it back safe and sound. Later in the week we started learning about communities, cultures, and traditions and we raised our hand and told Mr. Becker and the class our traditions.

Weekly Reflection 4/25/14
Class: This week in class we had fun. As you know we had portfolio night. All of our words on our comic strips were cut out and glued. We all painted, cut out building and glued tissue paper on our Chicago fire city. Also we started a new read aloud "Mr. Poppers Penguins". In reading we had 2,375 homework minutes. In math we had 1,255 homework minutes. In all 3,630 homework minutes for the week. We love school and everything that comes with it.
Science and Social Studies: This week in science and social studies we played a game to introduce the water cycle we are starting. This is how you play, you get into a semi circle. And pass a globe (it is soft ball and filled with air). We had fun during science and social studies!!!!
Literacy: This week we did a lot of literacy. We got ready for portfolio night. Our class made our portfolios by sorting our work throughout the year into 5 sections. Some people in our class went around the school and took pictures for pic collages to add to our portfolios. The 4 downstairs 3 grade classes put on a performance about Chicago. Our class had the part of sports in Chicago. Some people got to say a line in the Chicago play and one person got a singing solo. We also made art projects to decorate the classroom. The projects were about the Chicago Fire of 1871. We painted one and made a comic strip. We had a great time in literacy.
Math: This week in math we worked on time. We also finished fractions. We did Sumdog and we did multiplication and money. We learned how to tell time in 3 different ways. If the time was 5:30 we could say it like 17:30, 30 minutes after 5 o'clock, and 30 minutes before 6 o'clock. Those are the three ways how to tell 5:30. It was fun during Math Time.
Specials: This week in specials we: Finished our flower bowls and they look fabulous! We continued recorder karate and most of us are on the orange belt . We are working on the green belt. We had a lot of fun in specials this week in 3B!!!!!
Reflection 4/11/14
Class: This week in Class we went to the the Columbian Exposition. We also went to Midway. We also ate cotton candy, sausage, olives, cheese, pepperoni, and Chinese candy. Science and Social Studies: This week we had a lot of fun in science. We did rocks and minerals. Groups had to find the properties of minerals. We did a lot of observations like smell and hard medium or soft and color if you scratch the rock. We are writing about science right now. Because we love SCIENCE!!!!!!
Literacy: This week in literacy we learned about the Chicago fire. We are writing a narrative story. We have done a lot of research and we have much more to do. There is a rumor that a cow kicked over a lantern and that is what started the fire. Learning about the Chicago fire has been fun and interesting.
Math: This week in math we did fractions. We played a game called hexagon fractions. You try to fill up more hexagons with fraction pieces/ shapes than your partner. Were going to have a fraction test. One time a week we go to the math lab. When we go we play sumdog. So we practice on it. We work in our envision workbook with our friend Emmet otter . Also with Emmet were learning fractions on a number line. We had fun in math!
Specials: This week in specials we: Made flower pots out of clay. At gym we played with hula hula hoops and we made a house with them. Today at music we practiced our concert. We had fun in specials this week in 3B!!!
Reflection 4/4/14
Class: This week in class we read 1437 minutes and for math there were 731 minutes. In all we had 2,168 minutes. Since we had spring break we had less time to work on our learning log. So we didn't do as many reading and math minutes. On Friday, April 11 our class is having a Chicago world fair where everyone dresses up like the olden days and goes to the fair. On Wednesday, April 23 it is Portfolio night!!! All the kids show their parents what they did the past year. Also on that same day we are putting on a performance for the parents and it is all about Chicago some kids are the actors or actresses some kids have speaking lines and everyone sings and dances. Our topic is sports! Our class had a great week in class.
Science and Social Studies: This week we did rocks and minerals and Chicago Fire research. We did our research on the internet and in books. We even went to the Library to go on the computer to research interesting facts about the Chicago Fire. For minerals we have 12 minerals in a bin and we gather information. We had a good time doing Science!
Literacy: This week on literacy we,started studying about the Chicago fire. We also went on a webquest for facts and information.We also started a new series of books called reach. Today we read our first reach story. We had a fun week in 3B!!!
Math: This week in math we did fractions (again). We learned how to compare fractions on a number line and not on a week we pretended that we were in a cookie factory, we got fired from the last two jobs but Mr. Becker seems to trust us. The last job we were packaging candy bars. We love math!!!
Specials: This week in specials it was fun. We went to computers on Monday. It was Type 2 Learn. On Tuesdays, we go to art. We drew flowers with glue. Then on Wednesday and and Friday, We did music. We sang songs about Chicago sports teams and we will perform those songs on portfolio night. On Thursday, we went to library. We read a book about the Great Chicago Fire. We had fun in specials this week!!!!!
Reflection 2/28/14
Class: This week in class in Friday fun we had fun playing games on the iPads. We also got 2,620 minutes of reading and 1,631 math minutes for a total of 4,251 minutes.We moved our desks and got ready for the ISATs.We also celebrated Kevin's birthday.It was a great week!!!
Science and Social Studies: We have been finishing up simple machines. The last simple machines we worked on screws and gears. We finished up simple machines and started Rocks and Minerals. Social Studies: Are class got a few responses of postcard writing. We had a great time in science and social studies.
Specials: This week in specials we had a lot of fun. In gym we are doing vollyball. The teams are the Australians Tasmanian Devils, Chicago Bluehawks, Hawaiian Mavericks, and the Honolulu Happy Coconuts. In art we did self portraits. In music Acca Bacca Soda cracka with the recorders. In computer we did Type to learn and Sumdog. In specials we had a good time this week!
Literacy: Literacy was very fun this week!!! The ISAT is coming up so we did many practice tests and we wrote about 1,0000 extended responses. We also did a lot of rough drafts. We also did a worksheet called classroom legs. We did this to see how much we improved because we also did in the beginning of the year. We had a lot of fun this week!!!! : )
Math: This week in math we had a lot of fun. We practice are extended responce. We also started are geography unit. Fractions was another unit we started. With fractions we did story problems. This week we had a lot of practice but we love math.
Reflection 1/17/14
This week in class we did 2,445 reading minutes, 1,664 math minutes, and 4,109 total minutes of homework. We had a great time exploring the Asia MAP, doing Lego robotics with Mrs. Wilcox, and starting Spelling City.
We had a giant map of Asia in the cafeteria this week. We played Simon Says and Capture The Lanyard. We also built dancing birds with robotic legos in Mrs. Wilcox’s room. We had to think of different ways to change the speed and direction of the dancing birds. We have also started our force and motion / simple machines unit. Social Studies and Science were awesome this week.
This week in math we did a dividing cookies activity. We had to divide different number of cookies to four people. Then we took our multiplication and division test. We also did advertisements for different sized candy boxes. We used the number in our family to determine how many candies went in each box. We also focused on multiplication in sumdog this week.
In music we continued our recorder Karate. Some of us are yellow belts now. In library we learned about Caves. Some examples were Ice Caves and Lava Caves. Some caves also have columns. In Art we took paper off of small walls for cave painting. During gym we have been working on basketball tricks.
In literacy this week we published our fables. We also took a test on myths and fables. We completed another Wonders unit this week. We spent some time learning and using spelling city so now we will take our pretest and posttest on the computer. We learned a few new cursive letters this week too.
Weekly Reflection 1/6/14
We are excited to be back at school after our winter break. We had two snow days this week so we only have three days of school. In literacy we are working some new materials that are called Wonders. We are also publishing the fables we wrote before break. In science we will be starting a new unit on simple machines. We have started division and talked about repeated subtraction, array’s, and fact families with multiplication. We worked with maps this week because next week we will visit the huge map of Asia that is in the cafeteria. It is at least as big as the floor in our classroom. We were glad we finally got to play outside for recess the last two days.
We got to do recorder karate this week in music. Right now everyone is a white belt. We are trying to get to yellow belts. We talked about Asia with Mrs. Lathrop in library as well. We listened to Tiki Tiki Tembo on the smartboard.

Class: Today we went to the library because Mr. Ed a janitor is retiring. We listened to Mr. Ed to a book he made.We also made Mini Me, it's a character from the book. It's the main character. We also finished our animal project today. This week for homework minutes was for reading was 2,555 and for math it was 1,604 and for all it was 4459. We had a nice week.~
Science: This week in science, we finished up our animal creations. These animals are not real animals. We also finished our crayfish writing. We made a crayfish wheel. We also went Mrs.Wilcox’s to study microscopes. We put different slides to look at the plants, animals, and man made objects. We had a fun time in science!
Math: In math we did awesome arrays for multiplication problems. We also studied multiplication and division problems. I really liked doing multiplication and Division it was fun. We also did a candy factory for multiplication facts. We had a lot of fun in math!
Specials: This week in specials we had fun! On Monday we went to the computer lab. We played Type To Learn. On Tuesday we went to art and worked on self portraits. On Wednesday we went to music and played recorders. On Thursday we went to library and worked on nominees. On Friday we went to music again. We also go to gym everyday at the end of the day. It was an awesome week.
Literacy: This week in literacy we wrote letters to our parents for conferences. We wrote about what we are proud of in school. Also we wrote about how we can set goals for ourselves. We wrote about what we have done so far in third grade. Last we wrote about the things we are thankful for. We started to learn about rhyme schemes in poetry. So that's when there is a rhyming pattern in a poem.

Literacy: This week we had fun in literacy. We continued our novel studies. The books were Clementine's Letter, 3rd grade Angels, No Talking, and Shredder man. Everyone had fun during literacy.
Math: In math we played a math game called jeopardy. We also did a packet that includes math problems. And in the morning we did what number am I. In math we did a math test with 30 problems. We had fun in math this week!
Specials: In computers we started Edmodo. In art class we finished our tikis. In music we learned B and A on the recorder. In gym we had a jump rope contest. We can't wait for next week to go to more specials!
Class: This week in class we did 3001 reading minutes and 1045 math minutes in total we had 4046 minutes in all. We also created an animal. You draw the animal, make adaptations, and made a Food Chain. We did a boy test (for girls to). And we did Edmodo where we played a block sliding game.
Science: In science this week we created our own animals. Our animals have to survive. We got to combine two animals but our animals have to be a bird and a bird combined or a mammal and a mammal. We also worked in the computer lab and typed our crayfish writing. We made a rough draft for our crayfish writing. We also worked on a wheel we typed about crayfish habitat structural and behavioral adaptations and interesting facts. We had a lot of fun in science this week!!!
Weekly Reflection 11/1/13
Literacy: This week in literacy we created our own monsters. We did different sections of why the monsters strike, where they hide, and then we put them together. We drew our monsters and then water painted them. The class got to pick a name for there own monster that fits the monsters personality. Our class split into three groups. The three groups are Clementine's letter, Shredderman, and Third Grade Angels. We keep track of our thoughts on think marks. The think marks let us write down our predictions, questions and text to self or text to text connections.
Math: In math we used rounding and and estimating to find the difference with 3 digit numbers. We also watched envision math videos to understand what we are going to learn today. We do morning work every day to warm our brains. We also made subtraction spiders for halloween. We wrote word problems using subtraction for our spiders. We had fun in math this week.
Specials: In music we just started playing on the recorder. In art we did flying bats, sitting cats, and skeleton hats. In the computer lab, we did sumdog, and type to learn every Monday and Friday morning. In library,we learned that a newbery medal is the best story. We had fun in specials this week!
Class: In our class Halloween is a big celebration! We had a really fun party! We had pin the nose on the pumpkin and a scavenger hunt. Our homework log minutes are great this week. 2760 for reading, 1760 for math, and 4520 minutes in all. Our best are reading minutes and our best total minutes for the year. We love 3B!!
Science: This week we learned about geckos and newts. We got to touch the geckos. We had to draw and compare them by their body's.The geckos were big and the newts were small. We did a packet and the other gave information. They both grow long tails.
Weekly Reflection 10/25/13
Specials: In music we watched The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. No one talked only the music talked. We made symmetrical things in art. In math lab we did sumdog and type to learn. In gym we played treasure hunt. It is a game where you have a group and a toy you try to find that toy under a cup. Some cups are empty and some have toys under them. You take turns try to find your toy under a cup. What ever group gets 6 of their toys wins. At library we read a book called bones. The book is about your bones and where they are in your body.
Class: This week our class read 2551 homework minutes and did 1583 math minutes for homework. Our total was 4134 minutes. We threw a cushy ball at the dartboard on the smartboard. Also we could turn in our signatures for special things. We also cleaned out our desks. Every time we come in from recess we read the mouse and the motorcycle we have fun in class!
Math: This week we played a game called closest to 100. How you play is each player keeps a card that has a one on it. Then they take three other cards. You try to get closest to 100 with a 2 digit number then you try to get closest to 100 with those 2 numbers. Then you do the same thing but with a 3 digit number. And we did sumdog yay!
Science: In science we learned about fish. We did experiments with the fishes. We learned about fishes and touched them while filling out packets. We are also starting to write a essay about crayfish. We did a graphic organizer, then we did a rough draft. We will finish our final project next week.
Literacy: This week in literacy we have been starting are novel groups. The books are: Shredder Man, Clementine’s Letter, and Third Grade Angels. With our books we have been using thinkmarks. Thinkmarks are like slips of paper that you can write prediction on and other stuff. We can't wait to do more literacy.

Specials: This week we learned a new song called The Old Lady. In art we worked on a project with symmetry. In computer class we did Type 2 Learn and Sumdog and we learned how to use Google Drive. In library we learned about bones. In gym we did hula-hooping and this weeks specials were very fun.
Class: This week we had a 4 day weekend! We did not have school on Friday and on Monday to. We didn't have school on Friday because teacher conferences,and we didn't have school Monday because of Colombus day. Today we went to the library to see a staff from the Vernon Area Public Library. She talked about folk tales and read two stories to us. It was fun! This week our class read 2,636 minutes and did 1,731 math minutes for homework. Our total was 4,367. That is our best so far!
Math: In math this week we have been carrying 3-digit numbers and estimating. We’ve been learning the game capture five it's a game of strategy . You use change cards on the number board to capture chips, first one to five wins. We can do xtramath.org on the i pads after our work is done. Math is one of our favorite subjects in school.
Science: We are starting a project on a crayfish and we are reading an article about crayfish. Also we did an article about bess beetles and writing about it. We watched 2 crayfish videos and a prairie dogs video. Mr. Becker told us that rattlesnakes are starting to be born without their rattles. Crayfish eat other crayfish. They can be blue for camouflage.
Literacy: We made fact fragments for a project that is all about crayfish and bess beetles. If you turn in your learning log you get to play a game called sparkle. Sparkle is a game where you try to get the letters in order. Our teacher gives us spelling words to use and if you get sparkled you are out of the game. Each person says the next letter if you say the wrong letter you are out. We do spelling test with our elbow buddies.
Class Reflection – Week of 9/30/13
Our class went to Rivershire this week. We studied about snakes and really touched a real snake named Clementine. Clementine is a corn snake. We also studied about Beavers and 2 people dressed up as beavers. In another group we went on a scavenger hunt. There really weren’t many animals. We had a very good time at Rivershire!
In literacy we learned about Antarctica. We learned vocabulary and interesting facts about Antarctica. One of the facts was Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. A lot of fish drift in the dim light. Literacy is fun because we learn a lot like how animals survive.
This week on Tuesday we had a math test. On the math test we did addition and subtraction. We also did word problems on the test. We learned a new way to add three digit numbers. We played a game called go collecting. It’s when you take two collecting cards and add the numbers on them to the nearest hundred. When it’s your turn you can ask for a doll card, if your partner has a doll card they will give it to you, but if your partner doesn’t they say go collecting and you pick a card from the deck.
In science this week we went to Mrs. Wilcox’s room to study crayfish. She had read crayfish and we did different things to them and we observed them. Our class is studying animal adaptations. There are behavioral and structural adaptations. The crayfish were very crazy, they snapped at us. We put two crayfish together to see what they would do. Science is so fun!
In music we learned two new songs. One was the wackiest witch and the other was skeleton band. In art we made V trees. First we did the background and then we did the tree. During type to learn we played games and try to complete a final challenge to pass a level.

In literacy we learned about adjectives. We also read Blue Whales and Buttercups. We saw a video of a water spider building his home. We read a story Spiders and Their Webs in Story Town.
We did a lot of math this week. Everyone voted to name our otter. Our otter is on the computer and he helps us with math, his name is Emmet. We are working on rounding. We are also comparing and ordering numbers. We do math games with number lines. Our class has a math test on Tuesday.
In science we are learning about animals. We even looked and touched animal bones. We read a book and we did vocabulary about animals and communication. We also read a book called Blue Whales and Buttercups. Last we guessed what animal belonged to what bone. We read a book about skulls that was called Mystery Mouth.
In art we learned how to make V trees and how to make different lines. In music we learned a song named Kukkaburra and we learned a new word duration. In computers we do this program called type to learn and we do Sumdog. In library we are scanning numbers to learn more about the library. In gym we practiced soccer skills. We are really enjoying specials.
This week we did a lot of things in class. September 27, today, Mr. Becker has a football game! Who’s going? We get to walk in the hallway by ourselves now because Mr. Becker can trust us. He still checks on us though. We had a very fun week in class.

In literacy we are making a summary on how animals talk. We are using a lot of vocabulary with our writing. We put two fingers up like a V if we recognize a vocabulary word. Everyone is working on learning to read to a partner. We are also making trifold for our vocabulary and comprehension practice. Mr. Becker tells us to use Pizza, Pizza, Pizza which means more detail in your writing.
We do a lot in math class. We have this math that is called expanded form, standard form, and written form. Expanded form is where you add up numbers to make a full number like, 2,000+500+40+3=2,543. We started rounding this week on Friday. Rounding is when you estimate to the nearest 10, 100, or 1000. We can’t wait to do more math.
In science we saw a video of an octopus camouflaging itself under water so it could stay away from predators and so they can prey on other animals. We also read the book Blue Whales and Buttercups. It is about plants and animals.
This week we did a lot of things in class such as star student. Some of us moved our desk and some furniture in class moved. We also got a new computer in our room. Mr. Becker said we will get one more as well as two more I-Pads. We communicated with each other through the week and there was some chatter. It was a great week in class.
In specials we did computers, art, music, library, and gym. In computers we did Sheperd math and we did type to learn and sumdog. In art we read a book called sky tree. Then for practice we drew on the whiteboard. In music we played hide the penguin and hit sticks together. It is similar to a game called Hot and Cold. Last we checked out books and in gym we played soccer.

We learn fun things in 3B. This week we have been working hard for green cards to earn rewards. Some rewards are having a class pet at our desk for the day, new pencils, specials chairs, Mr. Becker coming to recess or lunch, or some Friday fun time. We also have a new student in our class named Ryan.
Our focus in literacy this week is Aero and Officer Mike, Police Partners. Our vocabulary this week are scent, wanders, whined, obey, demonstrate, and patrol. We started writing titled - If I were in charge of the world. We say that we are in charge of something in the world. We can’t wait to do more literacy throughout the year.
We studied why we do math in our everyday lives. We even made a math book and did problem solving strategies. We followed the problem solving steps and worked with buddies. We learned how to play Wild Wild West to practice our math facts. That is what we did in math.
We learned about some landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Everglades, Mt. Rushmore, and The Golden Gate Bridge. We also learned where our community is in the United States. We learned a song about the cardinal directions. We also learned about intermediate directions.
In music we did doggie doggie where’s your bone. In art we did crazy hair day with lots of lines and colors. At gym we are working on soccer skills. We recently did MAP testing at the computer lab. In library we did a game that helped us with sorting books by author.

For example, for individual, we can earn a class pet for a day, earn a teacher chair for a day, or an autographed Patriots picture. Our class can earn Mr. Becker to come to lunch or recess with us. We hope we do more fun things in 3B.
In literacy we read about schools around the world and Guinea Dog. We finished Jake Drake Bully Buster. When we read and see a high-lighted word we put two fingers up. We studied 6 vocabulary words. The words were chores, certain, resources, culture, tutor, and uniforms.
We did add and subtract problems. We did word problems. Today we did drops in the bucket. Today we also did a maze of math. We did sumdog. We rolled dice and added and subtracted.
This week we learned about kids going to school around the world. We also learned about different communities. We made badges about our communities. We learned about space. We had fun doing social studies.
Sumdog is a math game that you can add and subtract. It is a fun game that you can learn and play. In the game you start off as a brown rat. One of the games if feed your monster until it blows up. Another game is called snowball.
Class Reflection – Week of 8/26/13
Our class has been reading Jake Drake – Bully Buster. We have been playing games like human knot and name game. We recently did two fire drills. Hallway ninjas is how we roll in the hallways. We have a new student named Alecxa.
Reading and Writing is called literacy. We do something called Daily 5. In Daily 5 there is something called read to self and read to someone. We write in our composition notebooks after all the work that has to be done is done. We enjoy doing literacy.
This week we did a lot of math. We worked on graphing, problem solving, math games, and we did a lot of adding and subtracting. We learned about pictographs and bar graphs. We also did surveys and we went around the classroom and asked everyone their favorite. We also had a lot of fun playing math games too.
When we were doing Social Studies we were studying about astronauts and when we first did it we got lost so we didn’t know what to do. Then we kept on reading to try to go to Florida Cape Canaveral. Then we got closer by continent, hemisphere, state, and community. Now we are doing a project.
The first thing we do in music is get to our seat stand up and sing the Half Day song. Then we wing a different song and play instruments. On the first day of Art Mrs. Sweet helped us make scratch books. At computers we practiced logging in to sumdog. Then we played sumdog. In gym we ran around and played a game.
Literacy: This week we had fun in literacy. We continued our novel studies. The books were Clementine's Letter, 3rd grade Angels, No Talking, and Shredder man. Everyone had fun during literacy.
Math: In math we played a math game called jeopardy. We also did a packet that includes math problems. And in the morning we did what number am I. In math we did a math test with 30 problems. We had fun in math this week!
Specials: In computers we started Edmodo. In art class we finished our tikis. In music we learned B and A on the recorder. In gym we had a jump rope contest. We can't wait for next week to go to more specials!
Class: This week in class we did 3001 reading minutes and 1045 math minutes in total we had 4046 minutes in all. We also created an animal. You draw the animal, make adaptations, and made a Food Chain. We did a boy test (for girls to). And we did Edmodo where we played a block sliding game.
Science: In science this week we created our own animals. Our animals have to survive. We got to combine two animals but our animals have to be a bird and a bird combined or a mammal and a mammal. We also worked in the computer lab and typed our crayfish writing. We made a rough draft for our crayfish writing. We also worked on a wheel we typed about crayfish habitat structural and behavioral adaptations and interesting facts. We had a lot of fun in science this week!!!

Literacy: This week in literacy we created our own monsters. We did different sections of why the monsters strike, where they hide, and then we put them together. We drew our monsters and then water painted them. The class got to pick a name for there own monster that fits the monsters personality. Our class split into three groups. The three groups are Clementine's letter, Shredderman, and Third Grade Angels. We keep track of our thoughts on think marks. The think marks let us write down our predictions, questions and text to self or text to text connections.
Math: In math we used rounding and and estimating to find the difference with 3 digit numbers. We also watched envision math videos to understand what we are going to learn today. We do morning work every day to warm our brains. We also made subtraction spiders for halloween. We wrote word problems using subtraction for our spiders. We had fun in math this week.
Specials: In music we just started playing on the recorder. In art we did flying bats, sitting cats, and skeleton hats. In the computer lab, we did sumdog, and type to learn every Monday and Friday morning. In library,we learned that a newbery medal is the best story. We had fun in specials this week!
Class: In our class Halloween is a big celebration! We had a really fun party! We had pin the nose on the pumpkin and a scavenger hunt. Our homework log minutes are great this week. 2760 for reading, 1760 for math, and 4520 minutes in all. Our best are reading minutes and our best total minutes for the year. We love 3B!!
